MENDING KIT
Materials:
- Colorful fabric-corduroy
- denim
- sailcloth, etc.
- One snap or Velcro
DIRECTIONS
- Cut two pieces the indicated size of pattern on the right of this page, or cut one piece 15" x 4 1/2"
If using two pieces cut one in half, turn both cut edges under and stitch.
- With right sides together, place two halves on uncut piece (if using one piece turn in both ends to form pockets).
- Stitch entire outside edge together, thus forming the two pockets. Turn inside out squaring the corners, press. Stitch all around 1/4" from edge.
- Cut small oval of flannelette or felt with pinking shears.
Place on finished kit as shown.
Stitch across center, leaving side pockets free under flannelette.
Equipping the Kit
Attach to flannelette a MINIMUM OF :
- 2 needles-medium size
- 2 medium safety pins
- 2 large safety pins
- 2 small safety pins
- 6 common pins
In one pocket put a piece of cardboard to which has been sewn (or use a 2 x 2 ziplock bag)
- 1 large dark jacket button
- 2 white shirt buttons
- 1 dark pants button
In other pocket put a piece of cardboard wound with:
- black, white, brown and gray thread, at least 3 yards of each.
- Fold in half and sew snap or Velcro closing where outer edges come together.
You are finished. You have made a seafarer happy that he or she can replace that lost button or repair the rip in a seam!!!
